I recently talked to the National Park rights of way person, who passed on a comment from the rangers about the condition of the BW which passes around the northern side of Roseberry Topping from the saddle between Roseberry Topping and Newton Moor. There are some problems with erosion, and MTBs using the footpath marked as Brant Gate, so it might be better to avoid this way, and instead use the BW on the southern side of Roseberry Topping, or via Aireyholm Farm to avoid making the problem worse.
