Comments for Levisham Loop

A long moorland route in the centre of the national park, with a mixture of fast gravel tracks and moorland singletrack.

Nice route

A nice route, would have been even better before the heavy rain as some of the tracks were a bit sticky. Definately avoid this after long periods of wet weather and during winter IMO. I started from the top of the hill above Goathland. Highlights are the singletrack over two Howes Rigg to Goathland and the fast track above the Hole of Horcum. The permissive bridleway was a lot nicer way to finish the ride than slogging up the tarmac - recommended. No great technical interest but a good day out in some lovely surroundings. Watch out for the forestry bit, it is not easy to get the correct route (Always the way on forest tracks). Please note I did not follow a (the) written description just the route on the map.
Alternative to the road climb out of Goathland

I rode part of this route, and found there is a good alternative to the long boring road climb from Goathland. Just after the climb starts, look for a permissive BW on the left, and follow this up for several miles until it reaches the road from the A 169 to Beck Hole. Turn right onto this road and shortly you'll be at the road junction and rejoin the route.
